Support for Children under the NDIS – By Interchange Australia Consultant, Amber Hall
The NDIS supports people under the age of 65 with a significant and permanent disability that affects how they can independently take part in everyday activities. If you are a parent/carer of a child who has a significant and permanent disability you may be eligible to enrol with the NDIS. Please contact the NDIS on 1800 800 110 or visit their website at www.ndis.gov.au. Once they confirm that you child/children can participate in the NDIS, they will work with you to develop your child’s individual plan.
If your child/children is eligible you will need to think about your child’s life goals and outcomes and develop a Participant Statement to help the NDIS develop your child’s NDIS plan. To access the Getting Plan Ready form to record your child’s participant statement please go to http://www.ndis.gov.au/…/planning-proc…/developing-childs-plan.html.
Your child’s NDIS plan includes information on their goals, environment and personal context as well as their informal, mainstream and funding supports. These include:
- your child’s living arrangements
- your child’s regular activities, in particular social activities and education
- important people in their life
- your child’s current informal, community and government-funding supports
- what is working well in your child’s life or not working so well, things they are good at and things they enjoy.
Interchange Australia is a registered NDIS provider and we provide services across the age spectrum including children and young people. If you require assistance to help you prepare your child’s Participant Statement please contact one of our Consultants on 1300 112 334.
