The Importance of Staff Information Sessions – By Interchange Australia HR Manager, Lynne Busby
Interchange Australia employs over 100 staff. Some staff work predominately in our offices and campuses whilst others deliver services to clients in their homes and in the community.
Communication amongst staff in any organisation is vital. In an organisation that has staff working in many different places at any given time, ensuring that all staff are up-to-date with changes in the sector and organisational goals can be challenging.
Interchange Australia takes an innovative approach to ensuring that all staff are fully informed via its intranet where staff can access their scopes of work, organisational and sector news, policy and procedure updates, event information and articles written by our consultants on various sector and service topics. Another channel of communication used by Interchange Australia is the monthly staff information sessions.
Each month, two of our consultants or managers present to a group of staff on service related topics or strategic organisational updates. These sessions are designed to keep staff abreast of industry changes, work protocol, organisational achievements, opportunities and industry knowledge, so as to better meet organisational goals, alignment and adherence to industry regulations and in better meeting the needs of clients in a competent and professional manner. Recent session topics have focused on the NDIS, My Aged Care, Home Care Packages and Navigation ans Service Assistance.
Research indicates that information sessions can provide measurable benefits to all employees by fostering the open door policy, improving transparency and openness and providing an opportunity for feedback from employees. These information sessions also provide an opportunity for staff to network and ask questions.
