Paul: Pursuing His Passion for Music, Drama and More with Interchange Australia – By Interchange Australia Consultant, Amber Hall
Paul joined Interchange Australia after his mother visited the Bowral office over ten years ago following their move to the Southern Highlands from Sydney. He hasn’t looked back since his first outing of movies and lunch, meeting so many friends and thoroughly enjoying the extensive range of activities offered by Interchange Australia. A highlight on Paul’s calendar is the regular monthly themed dinner groups at the Mittagong RSL. He cheekily recounted that one of his favourite Saturday activity memories was visiting Madame Tussauds in Sydney and talking to President Barack Obama in the Oval Office!
Paul is one of our talented performers, playing the keyboard in the The Hidden Wonders band and acting in the Stage Fright Players drama group. Performing comes naturally to Paul. One of his first performances was acting as Basil Fawlty in the production of Fawlty Towers. He recounts that it wasn’t natural for him to act as a ‘cranky man because I’m not normally like that”. Another memorable highlight in Paul’s acting career was his his performance as Colonel Mustard in “Haven’t Got a Cluedo..YET,” dedicated to the memory of his beloved mother, Maura Meyer. Paul said that his rehearsals and performances with the Hidden Wonders and Stage Fright Players are so important to his life because “he doesn’t feel like he is in a wheelchair or that he has a disability”.
Paul is one of our most eager participants in our music program, regularly contributing to the RockCan Hour on 92.5FM Youth Radio on Monday nights and performing with the Hidden Wonders at their many gigs throughout the year including RockCan. Paul began playing the keyboard over 5 years ago and practices at home in addition to attending band rehearsals. Paul’s most memorable RockCan moment was the bands rendition of AC/DC’s ‘TNT’ at RockCan last year.
Congratulations Paul on pursuing your passions and for achieving so much both musically and theatrically. We all look forward to seeing you perform in the future.
You can catch Paul and The Hidden Wonders performing at RockCan on Saturday 21st September at Mittagong RSL Club. Please Visit the RockCan facebook page for full details.
