National Volunteer Week is celebrated from Monday 20th until Sunday 26th May. The theme for this year is Making a World of Difference. It is widely recognised that volunteers make an enormous contribution to society. Volunteering Australia estimate that there are almost 6 million formal volunteers and many others who volunteer informally each year in Australia.
Interchange Australia is very fortunate to have volunteers who perform a variety of roles within the organisation and we sincerely thank and acknowledge the generous support and valuable time that all of our volunteers contribute.
Bill Murtagh commenced volunteering at Interchange Australia with his wife Rose in 2006. Bill drives clients to Peer Support outing destinations on weekends.
“It’s good fun,” says Bill. “I love seeing the enjoyment on everyone’s faces and the laughter. One highlight that comes to mind is a recent visit to Jamberoo Action Park. Some of the rides frightened the hell out of me, particularly the ‘spider ride,’ but it is all about participation and encouraging the clients, so I just had to get on with it!”
Bill also commented that “the teamwork at Interchange Australia is amazing, no matter what the activity it’s incredible how everyone works together!” Bill also volunteers as an Interchange Australia board member and his contributions are very much appreciated.
Emily Springett has also been a long term volunteer with Interchange Australia, providing valuable support at our Day Options Program at Springett House. Emily’s kind compassionate nature and dedication is highly valued by our staff as she’s involved with all the activities and so thoughtful in helping with all tasks throughout the day.
Interchange Australia also appreciates the volunteering efforts of our clients, Bec, Laura and Gabby, who generously assist office staff with a range of administrative tasks! Everyone appreciates the work they do and it is great to have them as part of the team!
Last but certainly not least, thank you very much to our board members, Jim Brokenshire, Noel Crellin, Bill Murtagh, Terry Oakes-Ash, Alicia Mah and Aurelia Grigore-Reid. All of our board members serve in a voluntary capacity and provide ongoing guidance and advice to ensure the prosperity of the organisation.
Thank you to all of our valuable and dedicated volunteers and to all volunteers nationwide who “make a world of difference!”
