Increasing Choice in Home Care – By Interchange Australia Consultant, Anne-Marie Kennedy
The Australian Government subsidises the cost of a range of different aged care services to support older Australians, no matter what their needs might be.
One of these services is a home care package. Home care packages help older Australians living at home to access a range of clinical care, personal and support services to assist with day-to-day activities.
From 27 February 2017, home care packages will change to give older Australians more choice about their care and who delivers it. They will be able to choose a provider that best meets their goals and needs. It will be easier to change providers if desired, for example, if the person moves to another area to live. If the person wants a change, the funding for their package will follow them to their new provider. A change of providers is not required if the person is happy with their existing provider, however the choice will be the person’s.
Home care packages are assigned to people based on their individual needs and circumstances. This ensures people receive care in a fair and consistent way around the country.
Interchange Australia is approved to provide personal and support services to people with home care packages. People with existing home packages and those who have been assessed as eligible to receive a package can contact us now if they are interested in Interchange Australia being their package provider.
