The Importance of Workplace Communication – By Interchange Australia Human Resources Manager, Lynne Busby
There are many ways to pass on information within the workplace – face to face, email, phone, text, website, social media and/or via an intranet.
In an effort to continue to reach out to our employees and expand our methods of communication, we recently introduced staff information sessions. The information sessions are currently conducted on the last Wednesday of each month and are attended by staff on a voluntary basis.
These sessions focus on topics that relate to the services we provide such as NDIS and Home Care packages and also cover areas such as customer service, service delivery, quality assurance and policies and procedures.
Research indicates that information sessions can provide measurable benefits to all employees by fostering the open door policy, improving transparency and openness and providing an opportunity for feedback from employees.
With so many different aspects to the services provided by Interchange Australia and with so many recent major changes in both the Aged Care and Disability sectors, employees need to keep fully informed of industry changes, work protocol, organisational achievements, opportunities and industry knowledge. This enables staff to meet organisational goals, to adhere to industry regulations and most importantly, to better meet the needs of clients in a competent and professional manner. These information sessions also provide an opportunity for staff to make recommendations, air their concerns, ask questions and network with colleagues.
At Interchange Australia, we continually review the best ways in which we can facilitate communication between all of our staff. With an ever expanding service area and growing workforce, we are reviewing a range of technologies to make access to information more accessible, particularly for staff working remotely or in the community.
