The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) is an entry-level home help programme funded by the Australian Government.
It is for older people who are mostly – but not completely – able to live and cope on their own, and don’t yet need higher levels of support at home. Support may also be provided for carers. Interchange Australia is an approved provider of CHSP services in the Wingecarribee Shire and offers:
• Individual Social Support
• Group Social Support
• Domestic Assistance
• Personal Care
• Flexible Respite
In April the 2019-2020 Budget was announced by the current government with funding for CHSP being extended from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2022.
“The Government will increase funding for aged care by $7 billion over five years. The Government will extend funding arrangements for the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) for two years, to 30 June 2022. This extends funding agreements with CHSP service providers. The CHSP funds a range of essential services e.g. Meals on Wheels, community transport, personal care, nursing, domestic assistance (e.g. cleaning and shopping), home maintenance and respite services.”
(Department of Health, 2019)
This extension of funding means a further two years of certainty for our current and future CHSP clients.
Why is this important?
Interchange Australia provides CHSP services to many local residents aged 65 years or older to stay active, engage with others in their homes and in their communities as well as stay healthy and safe in their own homes. This funding extension will provide continuity for these essential support services to our clients and help them to continue to live at home for as long as possible.
