Changes to the Aged Care Sector – By Interchange Australia Operations Manager, Anne-Marie Kennedy
Currently, eligible people over 65 requiring low level support to remain living at home independently like cleaning, shopping, meal preparation and showering assistance can access these services under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP). People with more complex needs requiring a number of home support services and therapies can access a higher level of support under the Home Care Packages (HCP) programme. Should the needs of people receiving assistance under CHSP increase they can transition, pending an assessment for eligibility, to a HCP.
Unlike CHSP, funding for the HCP programme is allocated directly to the recipient which allows the person to choose their provider. Proposed changes to the aged care system in 2020 will mean funding for the CHSP programme will cease and be absorbed into the HCP programme.
Current CHSP recipients may be on the waiting list to receive a home care package. Once you receive notification from My Aged Care your HCP has been allocated to you, you can choose Interchange Australia to be your provider and we will assist you in the transitioning process to make it as easy as possible for you.
Interchange Australia has been assisting older people requiring home help for over 30 years and is an approved provider of CHSP services in the Wingecarribee Shire and HCPs nationally. We have a wealth of knowledge about the aged care sector and are focussed on providing quality service to the people who need it.
